Promenade Gehlsdorf

The promenade in Gehlsdorf allows a special view over the river Warnow onto Rostock's 'skyline'.

A walk directly along the Warnow bank under chestnut trees from the ferry terminal Gehlsdorf to the ferry house is a very special experience all year round.

Gehlsdorf was incorporated into the city of Rostock in the year 1934. In the 19th-century, it became a popular residential area for prosperous Rostocker citizens. Among others, captains chose Gehlsdorf as retirement place. Ship owners built stately houses here.

A boulder from the Ice Age was found on the site of the Evertschen Gärtnerei (nursery) in 1939 and became a natural monument in 1941.

The stone's weight is 13.000,00kg.

The height is 2m and the width 2,5m.

For children and ambitious sporty adult it is a welcome climbing and perch opportunity location.

The view from here onto the blue reed edged Warnow and to the other side of the bank is, especially on sunny days a source of happiness.
