The Warnemünder lighthouse together with the 'Teepott' eminently characterise Rostock-Warnemünde's appearance.

The 36m high tower was put into service in 1898, after one year construction time. the construction management was with the former Rostock harbour-construction director Karl-Friedrich Kerner.

Until 1919, oil and gas were used as light source. Then, the light was generated by electricity.

Today, a 250 Watt metal-halide lamp provides the light for the tower, which can be seen around 24 nautical miles from the sea.

There was a lighthouse keeper until 1978. After a renovation, the tower is accessible again.

At its foot, events like concerts are taking place regularly, for example, on New Year's Eve the light and laser spectacle 'Lighthouse in Flames'.
